The Christie

Art Direction Concept development Design Whilst working as a Creative at Music I was the lead designer on The Christie account, a specialist cancer hospital based in Manchester. I was the first point of contact for the marketing team and attended regular meetings with the account manager to discuss upcoming and ongoing projects. During this time I worked on all aspects of The Christie brand, providing assets for print and digital fundraising campaigns, creating patient brochures and leaflets and advising the in-house designer. I also headed up the installation of the internal graphics for the Proton Beam Therapy Centre, an innovation in cancer treatment that is particularly effective in targeting cancers in young children. I worked closely with The Christie team to develop the concept for the graphics, pitching ideas and attending regular meetings with the clinical staff and facilities teams. The result was a jungle journey, creating distraction and comfort for the children and their families, and which took them from the waiting area, through the treatment rooms and into the ward. I engaged local illustrator, Jane Bowyer, to create illustrations for the rooms based on my original concept and worked closely with her and The Christie to ensure the illustrations were suitable for the area and that we kept on schedule due to the short window we had to install the graphics. The resulting installation received praise from the clinical team and the patients and their families, and was recognised by a number of award bodies and design publications and has been an outstanding project for the agency.
